What Do Sri Lankan Employers Actually Want?

Sri Lankan employers almost universally use the term "CV." When a Sri Lankan job advertisement says "submit your CV," they typically expect a 2-3 page document covering your full professional history in a structured format. They don't expect a one-page American-style resume, and they don't expect a 10-page academic CV either. The sweet spot for most Sri Lankan professional roles is 2-3 pages.

When to Use a Resume vs CV in Sri Lanka

If you're applying for a job in Sri Lanka or with a Sri Lankan company: use a CV. If you're applying for a job with a US or Canadian company (even from Sri Lanka): use a resume. If you're applying for an academic or research position in Sri Lanka: use a full academic CV which can be longer.
