CV Length: How Long Should a Sri Lankan CV Be?

Fresh Graduates and Entry-Level (0-3 Years): 1-2 Pages

If you're just starting your career in Sri Lanka, you simply don't have enough professional experience to justify a longer CV. Keep it to 1-2 pages. Focus on your education, any internship or training experience, relevant skills, and extracurricular achievements. Padding your CV with irrelevant information to reach 2 pages is worse than having a well-crafted 1.5-page CV.

Mid-Level Professionals (3-10 Years): 2-3 Pages

For professionals with 3-10 years of experience in Sri Lanka, 2-3 pages is the standard. You have enough substance to justify the length, but you should still be selective — every bullet point should earn its place. If a job role from 8 years ago is no longer relevant to your current career direction, a 2-3 line summary for that role is sufficient.

Senior Professionals and Executives (10+ Years): 3-4 Pages

Senior managers, directors, and C-suite professionals in Sri Lanka can justify 3-4 pages. Include a robust executive summary, significant career achievements, major projects, board positions, professional body memberships, and publications if applicable. But even here, every sentence must justify its inclusion.

Academic and Medical CVs in Sri Lanka

Academic CVs (for university lecturers and researchers) and medical CVs (for doctors with publications and specialist training) can legitimately be 5 pages or more. These follow different conventions — they're genuinely comprehensive records of professional and academic output, not the concise professional CV used for most business roles.
