CV Writing for Healthcare Professionals in Sri Lanka

Healthcare CVs in Sri Lanka follow different conventions than CVs in other industries. Whether you're a government hospital doctor, a private clinic nurse, a pharmacist, or a medical laboratory technologist, your CV needs to clearly communicate your qualifications, clinical experience, and professional registrations.

Registration and Licensing Must Come First

For all healthcare professionals in Sri Lanka, your registration details must be prominently featured. For doctors: SLMC (Sri Lanka Medical Council) registration number. For nurses: SLNC (Sri Lanka Nursing Council) registration. For pharmacists: NMRA or Council of Pharmacy. Include your registration number, date of registration, and current status. This is non-negotiable for any healthcare role in Sri Lanka.

Specialist Qualifications and Training

Postgraduate qualifications carry enormous weight in Sri Lankan healthcare. MD, MS, DM, MCh, Diploma in Anaesthesia, MSc in Clinical Oncology — whatever your specialisation, list it clearly. Include the awarding institution, year, and any distinctions. Membership of professional bodies (Sri Lanka College of Physicians, Sri Lanka Medical Association) should also be included.

Clinical Experience Format

List clinical positions in reverse chronological order. For each role: hospital/institution, ward/department, designation, and dates. Under each role, list key clinical responsibilities, procedures performed, caseload statistics, and any audit or research contributions. "Managed 15-20 outpatient consultations daily in cardiology clinic, specializing in heart failure management" is far more informative than "worked in cardiology department."

Research and Publications

For senior medical and academic healthcare roles in Sri Lanka, a publications list is essential. Follow a standard citation format (APA or Vancouver) and list in reverse chronological order. Include conference presentations, posters, and research grants as well.

CPD and Continuous Education

Healthcare employers in Sri Lanka value professionals who invest in their ongoing education. List recent CME (Continuing Medical Education) activities, workshops, conferences attended, and online courses completed. This demonstrates professional commitment and up-to-date clinical knowledge.
