Finance is one of Sri Lanka's most competitive job markets. Here's how to write a CV that stands out to banking, accounting, and financial services employers.

Lead with Your Qualifications

In Sri Lanka's finance sector, professional qualifications carry enormous weight. Place your ACCA, CIMA, CA, CFA, or other finance qualifications prominently — after your name and contact details, but before or alongside your professional summary. These are often the first thing finance recruiters scan for.

Quantify Everything

Finance CVs without numbers are generic and forgettable. Every achievement should include a number: portfolio size managed, cost savings achieved, audit scope, budget managed, team size led, % NPL maintained, revenue generated. 'Managed company accounts' becomes 'Managed group accounts for an LKR 4.2B revenue organization with 7 direct reports.'

Demonstrate Regulatory and Technical Knowledge

Sri Lankan finance employers want to see: CBSL compliance knowledge, SLFRS/IFRS familiarity, specific ERP or accounting software experience (SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, FINACLE), and understanding of relevant regulatory frameworks (KYC, AML, Basel III for banking; Companies Act for accountants).

CV Structure for Finance Roles

Professional Summary (3-4 lines with key credential, specialization, and top achievement) → Professional Qualifications → Work Experience (reverse chronological, achievement-focused) → Education → Technical Skills → Professional Memberships. Keep it to 2 pages maximum for most finance roles in Sri Lanka.
